After clicking “Buy it Now” on an eBay item, I got this message:

Congrats, you just bought this item.

Are we using the word “congrats” now?

From the latin “con” meaning trick, as in “I feel like I’ve been conned”. And “grats”, contraction of “gratis, meaning free. Congrats: You have have been tricked free of charge!
